Around 42 million people used solar lights in Africa as of 2018. This was a decrease in comparison to 2016, when the number of people using solar lights reached a peak of 48.5 million. Despite the decline, the usage of solar lamps in Africa has overall increased strongly, jumping from around 1.7 million in 2011.
