Hazardous waste managed in the United States 2001-2021, by type
In 2021, 37.9 million tons of hazardous waste were managed in the United States, of which over 75 percent - or 28.8 million tons - was wastewater. Since 2015, the quantity of managed hazardous waste in the U.S. has increased continuously, after a decline of almost 30 percent between 2001 and 2015. The state of Texas accounts for roughly half of hazardous waste managed in the U.S.
