Share of home movers paying stamp duty in the UK in 2020, by region
Between June 2020 and December 2020, the share of home movers who paid stamp duty tax in Greater London fell from 100 percent to 67 percent. This was due to the fact that the the threshold for stamp duty was raised from 125,000 British pounds to 500,000 British pounds. In the North of England, as few as four percent of home movers paid stamp duty tax in December 2020, down from 74 percent in June 2020. The proportion of first-time buyers paying stamp duty in the United Kingdom also reduced similarly in 2020.
