Forecasts for carbon dioxide emissions set out two different post-COVID-19 pandemic scenarios. In the Recoverscenario, direct emission levels are projected to surpass 2020 levels in 2035, reaching 3.7 metric gigatons in 2050. By contrast, the Reshape+ scenario predicts decreasing emission volumes, down to 0.86 metric gigatons in 2050.
