Number of children at preschools Japan 2004-2023
As of May 2023, there were around 841 thousand children enrolled in kindergartens across Japan, continuing the decreasing trend of the past two decades. On the other hand, there were around 843 thousand children enrolled in integrated centers for early childhood education and care, showing an increase in the number of children. The centers offer combined services of nursing care and educational classes to children before they enter primary school.
