Car travel caused the largest amount of transport-related carbon dioxide emissions from domestic tourist arrivals worldwide in 2005 and 2016, and was predicted to do so in 2030 as well, with emissions forecast to grow to 627 million metric tons of CO2. Meanwhile, other modes of transport, such as train travel, produced the smallest carbon footprint.
