The Men's 4x100 meter Relay has been contested at all Summer Olympics since 1912, and teams from the United States have won the event 15 out of 25 times. From 1912 until 1992, U.S. teams came first in every heat or final in which they participated, only ever losing out on medals due to disqualifications relating to baton exchanges. The U.S.' Frank Wykoff is the event's most successful athlete, winning three back-to-back golds between 1928 and 1936. Usain Bolt would also hold this record, however Jamaica were stripped of their 2008 gold medal as Nesta Carter was found guilty of doping in 2017; Carter was also a member of Jamaica's 2012 winning team, however this result remains unaffected. The only other team to be stripped of their medals in this event was the 2012 runners-up from the United States, as Tyson Gay failed a drug test in 2014; the medals were redistributed accordingly in 2015.
