The United States is, by far, the most successful nation in the history of the Men's 100 meter sprint at the Olympic Games. Since 1896, athletes from the United States have won this event 16 out of 29 times, taking home a total of 40 medals. Following the U.S., Jamaica and Great Britain have won three golds each, and eight medals overall. Jamaica's Usain Bolt is the most successful athlete in the event, with three 100m gold medals to his name. Only one medallist from this event has ever been stripped of their medal, and that was Canada's Ben Johnson in 1988, in one of the biggest doping scandals in sporting history.
