In Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, China won 88 medals. The country achieved the most medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, topping the gold-medal chart with 48. As a first-time Olympic host, China introduced a plan, the Olympic Glory-winning Program Guidelines 2001-2010, intending to become the top three medal winners at the 2008 Olympics. After the Games, the government continued to finance sports programs to improve the underperforming disciplines, such as swimming and rowing.
