In 2022, Siriam S.p.A. was the leading firm in the waste management sector in Italy, based on revenue. Its annual revenue surpassed one billion euros that year. Second and third in the ranking came A2A ambiente S.p.A. and Herambiente S.p.A., whose revenues added up to 636 and 475 million euros, respectively.
Almost one third of the solid municipal waste collected in Italy was intended for material recovery in 2022, whereas 18 percent of it was sent to landfills. Corepla – the National Consortium for the collection and recycling of plastic packages - was the leading organization in the material recovery sector, and it generated a revenue of over 885 million euros in 2021.
