In 2023, some 140.4 million cubic meters of wood was consumed by Confederation of European Paper Industries' (CEPI) members. Of this total, 75.7 percent were softwood species, specifically pine and spruce. Birch was the most consumed hardwood species, accounting for 11.4 percent of total CEPI member wood consumption in 2023.
