Abstract

A spherical ball and a method of making the spherical ball wherein the ball has a plurality of elongated dimples substantially covering the outer surface of the ball without any dimple overlap. The elongated dimples are defined by an oblong depression having a longitudinal axis and a length measured along the axis greater than a width measured perpendicular to the axis. The depression has a V-shaped configuration when viewed in a section taken through the longitudinal axis.

Claim

What is claimed is: 1. A dimple for a golf ball, comprising an oblong depression having a longitudinal axis and a length measured along said axis being greater than a width measured perpendicular to said axis, said depression having a V-shaped configuration when viewed in a section taken through said longitudinal axis, said V-shaped configuration comprising a pair of converging lines defining linear side wall bottom surface of the dimple. 2. A dimple as defined in claim 1, wherein said dimple has a symmetrical configuration and a maximum depth located at a midpoint of said longitudinal axis. 3. A dimple as defined in claim 1, wherein said dimple has an asymmetrical configuration and a maximum depth along said longitudinal axis offset from a midpoint thereof.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for monitoring update activity, particularly in the form of write requests, to a data storage facility, over at least one cycle to identify any write operation or update that occurs to that data storage facility on a track-by-track basis. At the end of each cycle a list of changed tracks is stored in a data set. After information has been accumulated by a collector application, a reporter application manipulates the data to obtain information concerning the track changes and to estimate communication path requirements.

Claim

What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States is: 1. A method for obtaining information about the number of updates to data blocks in data block locations in a disk storage facility over a time interval wherein said disk storage facility stores data groups as a plurality of data blocks, said method comprising the steps of: A) defining a data group set of at least one of the data blocks, B) defining an interval corresponding to the time period for which update information is desired, C) recording, during the defined interval, only a first update to each data block location for data in the data group set, D) after the defined interval transferring the information obtained by said recording to the data group set, E) determining, from the information in the data group set, the total number of data block locations in the data group set that were updated at least one time during the defined interval, and F) converting the total number of data block locations changed during into bandwidth based information about all the transfers involved in updating during the defined interval. 2. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein said step of recording includes defining a flag for each data block and altering the state of each flag upon receiving a first update to a corresponding data block. 3. A method as recited in claim 2 wherein said step of recording additionally includes: i) establishing a first state for each flag at the beginning of the defined interval, and ii) establishing a second state for an individual flag when the corresponding data block is updated a first time, said recording counting the total number of flags in the second state at the end of the defined interval. 4.

Molding equipment and related techniques for forming a golf ball with one or more deep dimples are disclosed. The golf ball comprises a core and a cover layer, wherein the cover layer provides one or more deep dimples that extend through the cover layer to and/or into a layer or component underneath are disclosed. Preferably, the deep dimples are at least twice the depth of conventional dimples, more preferably, three or four times the depth of the conventional dimples. We claim: 1. A molding apparatus for forming a golf ball defining a plurality of dimples along its outer surface and at least two deep dimples accessible from said outer surface, said molding apparatus comprising: a first mold half defining a hemispherical first mold surface; a second mold half defining a hemispherical second mold surface, said first and said second mold surfaces having a plurality of raised regions that form dimples along said outer surface of said golf ball; and wherein said first mold surface and said second mold surface each include at least one outwardly extending protrusion that forms said at least one deep dimple along said outer surface of said golf ball, said outwardly extending protrusion having a height at least twice that of the height of any of said plurality of raised regions. 2. The molding apparatus of claim 1, wherein said outwardly extending protrusion has a height of at least three times the height of any of said plurality of raised regions. 3. The molding apparatus of claim 1, wherein said outwardly extending protrusion has a height of at least four times the height of any of said plurality of raised regions. 4.

Abstract

A method for enabling overlapped input/output requests to a logical device using assigned and parallel access unit control blocks. Each I/O request interrupts an operating system to assign a base and related unit control block to the input/output requests. In addition a parallel access control block is associated with each unit control block for a logical volume and a parallel access main control block is established with a logical volume through which each of the base and related unit control block can be identified. An input/output request to a logical device interrupts the operating system to assign one of the base and one of the assigned unit control blocks to the input/output requests after which control transfers back to the operating system. At a disk storage facility, the input/output request is located in a table with other input/output requests and corresponding parameters. The disk array storage facility tests the parameters for each new input/output request to determine which of a plurality of control functions will be performed.

The molding equipment and related processes are particularly useful when forming the various layers by reaction injection molding.
