Maximo was a member of the Cursed crew. Similar to the rest of the crew, he participated in Hector Barbossa's mutiny and later, he became cursed after taking some Aztec gold. He is often seen in the background. He is a short pirate dressed in yellow, he was seen with Clubba during the raid on Port Royal. He and the rest of the crew attack on the HMS Dauntless. When the curse was lifted he surrendered to the Navy and was taken back to Port Royal to be hanged.
Biography[]
Maximo joined the crew of Captain Jack Sparrow prior to the search for Isla de Muerta, and served under Sparrow until the night of the mutiny led by Sparrow's first mate, Hector Barbossa. Maximo and the rest of the crew stood by Barbossa against Jack, who was then marooned while the crew, now serving Barbossa, continued on to Isla de Muerta. There, they took the treasure of Hernán Cortés and spent it all on life's pleasures. It was only later that the crew realized the treasure was cursed. Maximo found himself unable to die, and unable to feel neither pleasure nor pain. Under moonlight, he and the crew became walking skeletons, and the undead men began their quest to return all eight hundred and eighty two gold coins to Isla de Muerta.[1]

Years later, Maximo participated in the attack on Port Royal, slaughtering many civilians as Barbossa's crew searched for the last piece to lift their curse. He and the rest of the cursed crew returned to the Pearl with Elizabeth Swann as a prisoner. When the cursed crew boarded the HMS Interceptor he and Clubba fought one of the crew, and managed to stab him in the back with a dagger, pitching him into the sea.[1]
Maximo, like most of the other pirates from Barbossa's crew, fought against the British Royal Navy onboard the HMS Dauntless when Commodore Norrington's men launched an assault on the island. Maximo battled the Navy crew until the curse was lifted, and, upon seeing Koehler dead, dropped his cutlass and was taken back to Port Royal to be hanged.[1]

- Maximo was played by Maxie J. Santillan Jr. in the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.[1]
- After playing Maximo in The Curse of the Black Pearl, Maxie J. Santillan Jr. went to play Gummy the Pirate in the 2004 live-action/animated film The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. In the film, he sailed aboard the HMS Bounty, which would portray the Edinburgh Trader in the 2006 Pirates of the Caribbean sequel Dead Man's Chest.[citation needed]
- Maximo's name appears in the Black Pearl crew roster book at Walt Disney World's Tortuga Tavern restaurant.[2]
