''..it was amazing''***\r\nAlex Ramsey first meets the black stallion when they're both booked on a ship called the Drake. When the ship is destroyed during a storm, the Black stallion and Alex are the only survivors. They wash up on a deserted island. Alex knows if it wasn't for the Black he won't have survived the shipwreck. When Alex is rescued from the island, he insist on the Black being saved too. Soon they are on a voyage to New York in America. What fate awaits for a boy and a wild black stallion?\r\n\r\nI can remember reading this book around ten or eleven years old. I loved it so much I went on to read all the horse books by Walter Farley, and some by other authors as well. This was my first taste of reading for pleasure. Later, I would extend my love of reading about horses to actually owning a horse on my stepmother's farm. My stepmother, Lynne, saved horses from neglect and abuse. My first horse, Tonka, was a prancer and I loved her. Reading this book again brought back memories of bygone years of pleasurable midnight rides on Tonka. I recommend this children's novel to kids and adults alike. My copy was illustrated by Domenick D'Andrea.", "title": "The Black Stallion", "covers": [4037099, 3219082, 10307985, 10359460, 12211718, 4616217, 4616294, 1015457, 4616016, 962683, 7293493, 6474757], "subject_places": ["America", "Red Sea", "Gulf of Aden", "New York City", "Bombay", "India", "Mediterranean", "Alexandria", "Bengasi", "Tripoli", "Tunis", "Algiers", "Rock of Gibraltar", "Portugal", "Cape Finisterre", "Spain", "England"], "subjects": ["Walter Farley", "Horses", "Racing horses", "Black Stallion", "Childrens", "Children's", "Juvenile", "YA", "Young Adult", "Fiction", "Classic", "Literature", "Chapter book", "Books", "Stories", "Novel", "Hardcover", "Paperback", "Adventure", "Raging Sea", "Terror", "Danger", "Sinking ship", "Shipwrecked", "Stranded", "Survival", "Love", "Trust", "Trapped", "Animal", "Animals", "Children's fiction", "Horses, fiction", "Black stallion (fictitious character), fiction", "Juvenile fiction", "Black (Fictitious character : Farley)", "Alec Ramsay (Fictitious character)", "Shipwreck survival", "Human-animal relationships", "Arabian horse", "Race horses", "Training", "Stallions", "Chevaux", "Romans", "Romans, nouvelles, etc. pour la jeunesse", "Fictions pour la jeunesse", "Cheval", "Roman pour la jeunesse", "Friendship"], "key": "/works/OL869965W", "authors": [{"author": {"key": "/authors/OL76009A"}, "type": {"key": "/type/author_role"}}], "subject_times": ["1941"], "type": {"key": "/type/work"}, "location": "/works/OL869965W", "latest_revision": 19, "revision": 19, "created": {"type": "/type/datetime", "value": "2009-12-09T06:10:33.356489"}, "last_modified": {"type": "/type/datetime", "value": "2024-04-02T06:32:57.366213"}}
