Is the bay yesterday there was some show of Christmas

Day being duly observed, there being an entire

cessation of work on the ships at the piers and in the

stream Several vessels displayed their bunting, and
the Blackwall liner Shannon had a very pretty floral
device, in keeping with the day, over the gangway
Visitors to the piers were numerous, ospoJalty
during the afternoon and there was a good deal of
boating and yacht sailing going on. The Williamstown
steamer Gem was well patronised and conveyed
hundreds of holiday makers to the fishing village
The steamer Golden Crown and Williams took

away large numbers of excursion! is to the Heads,

while the steamers Rob Rob and Murray went to
Geelong and Schnapper Point respectively The day
was beautifully fine for pleasure seekers

THERE has been quite a clearing out of wool ships
from the piers in the boy this week, and apart from
those which sailed on or before Th Mrs day, there were
in the stream yesterday four very fine iron clippers
ready for sea These were the Grecian, Norma, Bon
Ledi, aim Evelyn, oil for London, and in addition to
these there was in the bay the ship Salisbury, bound
to Calcutta with horses The City of Florence was

consequence of the illness of Captain Hunter her departure

and Appelles, and to these may be added the new

bay on Thursday for Boston with wool

JUE Aldinga, on Thursday, completed another of
her quick passages from Adelaide and the run from
Cape Otway to the bay seven hours and a half, is one
of the fastest things which has been accomplished for
some time Captain McLean reports leaving Port
Adelaide, via Glenelg, at a quarter to 7 p.m. on the
22d 1 Inst, passing Cape Otway at 5 o'clock, and
entering the Heads at 10 minutes past 10 o'clock on
Thursday morah g Hobson's Bay being reached at
half an hour after midday Strong SW winds
with a high sea prevailed to Cape Otway, and moderate
westerly winds and fine weather thence until
arrival The Aldinga had a very large number of pas

senders of all classes

Ins s.s. City of Melbourne Captain J W Brown,
arrived in the bay from Sydney at 10 minutes past 6
o'clock yesterday morning She cleared Sydney Heads
at half-past 9 p m on 22nd inst, 6 the Island at quarter
past pm on the 23rd, and W ilBon s Promontory
at half-past 8 p.m. on the 24th Port Phillip Heads
being entered at half-past 2am on the 25th On the
passage she had llehtnortherly winds and fine weather
to Montague Island, and there met with strong
southerly (gales to Gabo Island after which sheep
countered a gale from the S. W. to Wilson s Promontory
W N W winds prevailed from thence until
arrival There w os nasty head sea from Montague

Island to the Heads.

THE S B Macedon cleared Sydney Heads at 2 p.m. on the
22nd, passed Gabo Island at pm on the 23rd,
Wilsons Promontory at midnight on the 24th, and
arrived in Hobsons Bay at half-past 7 pm on the
25th She experienced light northerly winds to Montague
Island, fresh SW winds to Rams Head,
from thence to Port Phillip Heads fresh westerly
