The widow of murdered British hostage Ken Bigley has spoken of her grief after learning of her husband's death.
Sombat Bigley said: "No words can express the agony I feel for the loss of my husband Ken."
Mr Bigley planned to retire after his stint in Iraq to start a new life with his 35-year-old Thai wife, who is grieving with her family in Bangkok.
Sombat, who had been married to the 62-year-old engineer for seven years,
was told of his death on Friday night.
"He was a good man and a loving, caring husband," she said in a videotaped statement shown at the British embassy in Bangkok on Saturday.
"He went to Iraq to help the Iraqi people. I would like to say my deepest thanks to those of you who have prayed for Ken and our family, from all religious backgrounds," she added, fighting the tears.
Dressed in black and white, she asked the media to respect her privacy at this time of mourning.
"I would like to ask the media to understand how I feel and to help by leaving me to grieve with my family in the privacy of my home," she said.

Mrs Bigley made tearful appeals for her husband's release while he was being held.

She recorded an emotional plea for his release on 23 September - the day after footage appeared on an Islamic web site showing Mr Bigley pleading for British Prime Minister Tony Blair to help save his life.
In the message she said: "We have been married for seven years and I love him very
much...I desperately want to be reunited with my husband.
"I plead for your mercy now, and beg that you release Ken so that I may be with him again."
Mrs Bigley has expressed a wish for her husband's body to be returned to a village in northern Thailand where the couple planned to live after he completed his work in Iraq.
However, she is said to be happy for his body to be returned to Liverpool if his family so wishes.
British diplomats in Baghdad are still trying to recover Mr Bigley's body.
The couple did not have any children together.
