The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded more than $314 million to 77 state and local government agencies to protect children and families from lead-based paint and home health hazards. New Castle County was awarded a $3.3 million-dollar grant for The No Lead Program, a $2 million-dollar grant for The Healthy Homes Production Grant Program and $8.7 Million  for the Lead Hazard Reduction grant program (LHRD) in 2022. These grants will give us the opportunity to conduct lead hazards and address healthy home hazards on over 590 homes.  

Established in 2019, The Lead Program, aka “No Lead”, addresses and remediates lead hazards in homes within 5 zip codes:  19703, 19720, 19801,19802, 19805 & 19806. Beginning 2023, the Lead Program was awarded an additional $8.7 Million to address an additional 330 units in ALL New Castle County zip codes.  Households with children under the age of 6, with pregnant women, or those built before 1978 may be eligible. 

Beginning 2022, The Healthy Homes Production Grant Program, aka “Healthy Homes” is available to all New Castle County zip codes.  Eligible households may be those with seniors over 62, persons with disabilities or children under 18.  A Healthy Home Assessment (HHA) is performed, to identify hazards such as radon, carbon monoxide, lead hazard, damp & mold, leaking roofs, excess heat and/or cold, falls in bathroom, electrical hazards, structural collapse, lighting issues, pests & food safety, or unsafe windows and doors.  If any health hazards are found during the assessment, we may be able to address the problem for FREE.
