MISSION

What is the overall mission of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program?

The CDBG program, authorized by Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, provides annual grants to cities, counties and states to develop strong communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. CDBG eligible activities are initiated and developed at the state and local level based upon a community’s needs, priorities, and benefits.
Community development activities build stronger and more resilient communities through an ongoing process of identifying and addressing needs, assets, and priority investments. Community development activities may support infrastructure, economic development projects, installation of public facilities, community centers, housing rehabilitation, public services, clearance/acquisition, microenterprise assistance, code enforcement, homeowner assistance and many other identified needs.
