Teaching – Master of Arts (M.A.)
Candidates in the online Master of Arts in Teaching program at Montana State study to become a teacher with a cohort in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment over the course of 12-14 months. Designed specifically to support the need for fully-licensed teachers in Montana’s rural communities, qualified individuals will spend one year engaged in full-time graduate study through both coursework and hands-on classroom experience that is completed in the student’s rural home communities. As such, please note that the MAT program cannot place candidates within 50 miles of Bozeman, Montana. At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to be licensed in either Elementary or Secondary Education, with Secondary Education endorsements in English, Science, Math and Social Studies available.

Distance Education
Montana State’s M.A. program in Teaching is designed to accommodate individuals in rural communities who wish to undergo a career change to become an elementary or secondary school teacher. Specifically designed to accelerate the learning process while also allowing the future teachers to learn within their home communities, the MAT program offers a majority online educational experience while gaining field-based learning experiences in rural communities. Aside from one seven-day residency in the summer on our MSU – Bozeman campus, the entirety of the MAT program is conducted online.
