With Jorge Masvidal (29-9 MMA, 6-2 UFC) now set to face Benson Henderson in UFC Fight Night 79’s headliner, Dong Hyun Kim (20-3-1 MMA, 11-3 UFC) will instead meet Dominic Waters (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in the card’s co-main event.
UFC officials today confirmed the switch, which comes one day after news of an injury to onetime welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves (21-10 MMA, 13-7 UFC) that scratched him from a fight with Henderson (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC).
UFC Fight Night 79 takes place Nov. 28 at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea. The event streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
Kim originally was slated to meet Masvidal but now faces Waters, who hopes to rebound from a setback in his UFC debut against George Sullivan. Previously, Waters had rattled off three straight wins on the regional circuit.
Kim, meanwhile, hopes to rebuild himself as contender. After winning four straight, he was stopped by Tyron Woodley in just 61 seconds in August 2014. He then rebounded with a submission of Josh Burkman in May at UFC 187.
