Vaskan sector 2379

Map of the Vaskan sector in 2379.

The Vaskan sector[1] was a region of space, a sector located in the galaxy's Delta Quadrant. (VOY episode: "Course: Oblivion")

Naming[]

The Vaskan sector was named for the Vaskan species and their homeworld in the Vaskan-Kyrian system[2], shared with the Kyrian people. They were encountered by the Federation starship USS Voyager the year 2374. (VOY episode: "Living Witness")

Location[]

The Vaskan sector was situated sixty thousand light-years from Sol. Nearby areas included the Kotaba Expanse and the Mutara class Swallow Nebula. (ST reference: Star Charts)

When the Alliance powers established a permanent presence in the Delta Quadrant in 2410 as part of Operation Delta Rising, the area was marked as the Kotaba sector, located within the larger Vyntadi and Delta Quadrant sector blocks. The Talaxians led by Ambassador Neelix established a colony on the planet New Talax in this region. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Reunion")

History[]

The Vaskans and Kyrians shared a class M planet but struggled with societal equality between their two species. (VOY episode: "Living Witness")

In 2374, the lost Federation Intrepid-class starship USS Voyager traversed the region between the B'omar Sovereignty and Hirogen Hierarchy on its journey home. On stardate 51850, Voyager visited the Vaskan-Kyrian system. (ST reference: Star Charts)

The vessel became inadvertently embroiled in the planet's conflict. Following the death of three crewmembers and loss of some equipment, Voyager left the Vaskans and Kyrians behind. In the centuries that followed, their fonclit escalated and they rewrote history, e.g. with museum exhibitions like The Voyager Encounter, lay the blame on "Warship Voyager". (VOY episode: "Living Witness")

When the Silver Blood officers Chakotay and Tuvok retraced the route of their USS Voyager through the Podaris sector to the Vaskan sector and their visit to the Silver Blood homeworld, realizing they themselves were the duplicates. The ship's attempt to return there was unsuccessful. (VOY episode: "Course: Oblivion")

In the year 2409, the Gaul led the Vaadwaur Supremacy in its attempted conquest of the Delta Quadrant. Their first action was the destruction of the B'omar Sovereignty and the Krenim Imperium. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Revelations")

In 2410, the Jenolan Dyson sphere jumped into the Alsuran sector. A permanent gateway connection with the Solanae Dyson sphere allowed the Federation, Klingon Empire, Romulan Republic and Ferengi Alliance, all Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers, to enter the Delta Quadrant and establish a permanent presence. The newly-formed Khitomer Alliance responded to the Vaadwaur threat and fought back the Supremacy, gathering Gedrin's opponents in the Delta Alliance. The nearby the Benthan Protectorate became one of the first members. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Alliances")

The Alliance helped the Talaxians settle New Talax in this region. (VOY episode: "Reunion")

In 3189, the Silver Blood's homeworld was marked on a star chart aboard the Federation Headquarters space station. (DSC episode: "Die Trying")
