The Titan class was a 25th century Federation starship type, a tier 6-rated science destroyer class derived from the 24th century Luna-class reconnaissance science vessel (RSV), in Starfleet and Khitomer Alliance service from the 2410s decade. The lead ship of the class was the USS Titan (NCC-98100). (STO website: House Shattered: It's the Titan!)
Service history and specifications[]
The new USS Titan was named after the 24th century Luna-class USS Titan, which gained fame under the command of Captain William T. Riker. In early 2411, at some point after stardate 87971.0[3] and soon after the Shattering of the Klingon Empire[4], Riker's Titan was honored when it became the namesake for the Titan-class prototype. As part of the process, Comet-class lead ship USS Comet was also retrofitted into a fleet-version of the science destroyer. The Titan itself was built in a more streamlined configuration. The ceiling of the mission pod was replaced by a holographic energy barrier. (STO website: House Shattered: It's the Titan!)
All Titan-based science destroyers and the Luna RSV subclasses were modular and their components interchangeable between them. The mission pod suspended from pylons above the saucer section was equipped by default, and could be removed. In Starfleet Shipyards Operations shipyard interfaces, the new USS Titan (NCC-98100) visually represented the tier 6 science destroyer configuration of the Luna-class family from the year 2411 onward. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Typically for starships of its time period, a Titan-class vessel was equipped with phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. It was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Both Worlds missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "First City", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Specifically, a ship of the class included four forward weapon mounts and three aft. By default, these included a pair of phaser beam arrays, phaser dual cannons and a photon torpedo launcher at the fore; and a photon torpedo launcher and another pair of phaser beam arrays aft. Bridge officer stations allowed for a science officer holding the rank of commander, a lieutenant commander pulling double duty as science and command officer, a tactical lieutenant commander, a engineering lieutenant, and an ensign-ranked tactical officer. As a science vessel, this class was capable of subsystem targeting and sensor analysis. As a science destroyer, vessels of the class could switch between science mode and tactical mode during combat, disabling the ship's secondary deflector during tactical mode. As an Alliance science vessel, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from enhanced particle generators, advanced shield systems, enhanced restorative circuitry, reactive shield technology and the It's Another Enterprise starship trait. The USS Titan and the Comet-class fleet science destroyer USS Comet were among the first ships equipped with the opening salvo. This console enabled a special weapon that fired small blue warheads from the ship's dorsal mission pod. (STO website: House Shattered: It's the Titan!)
