Polaris class

The Polaris-class was a type of Federation reconnaissance science vessel (RSV) starship in Starfleet service in the early 25th century, a variant subclass of the Luna design. These vessels were usually commanded by an officer holding the rank of one-star rear admiral or higher. An enhanced version, the fleet reconnaissance science vessel, was available for vice admirals. Specifications[]

All RSV classes were modular and their components interchangeable between them. All RSV starship classes featured a removable mission pod. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

In the mirror universe, the Polaris-class was a design in use by the Terran Empire. Imperial Starfleet categorized the Polaris-class as a deep space science vessel (DSSV). When the Tholian Assembly accessed alternate timelines in the Azure Nebula, Federation Starfleet gained access to the Polaris-class DSSV and added it to its ranks. Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Polaris-class reconnaissance science vessel allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at starbases. These options were designated Type 1-5 and Veteran. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
