A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). Also, please do not include details in the summary bar when editing pages and do not anticipate making additions relating to sources not yet in release. THANK YOU

For other uses, see Novak.

Novak was a star system, located somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant. (TOS novel: The Vulcan Treasure)

By the 2290s decade, this was in Romulan Empire space, near the Klingon Empire's borders. (ST video game: Klingon Academy)

History and specifics[]

The Novak system's orbit was the location of a planetary system. (ST video game: Klingon Academy; TOS novel: The Vulcan Treasure)

This system was centered orbiting a G type star, named for Captain Gerald Novak of the USS Alfred North Whitehead, who discovered it. Each planet in the system was named for a member of his family. (TOS novel: The Vulcan Treasure)

The story "The Vulcan Treasure" implicated this was a Federation colonial prospect, while later Klingon Academy appearances suggested it was in or near the Romulan Empire's sphere of influence. This is not necessarily contradictory, as the system could have been ceded or annexed either way in intervening decades.
