Minos, also known as Tharnos IV, was a planet, the fourth planet in the Tharnos star system. Minos rotates once every 40 hours and orbits Tharnos completely on a 437-day cycle. The world was a densly forested class M planet, which once was home to a humanoid culture called the Minosians. By the 24th century the Minosian population had been wiped out. (Last Unicorn RPG modules: Planetary Adventures, Planets of the UFP)
- Startrek.com gives the location of the planet as the Lorenze system.
In the year 2364 the USS Drake visited the planet and was destroyed by an Echo Papa 607 weapons system, which was still active following its creators' demise. A short time later the USS Enterprise-D was sent to investigate the Drake's disappearance and was also attacked, but ultimately defeated the Echo Papa system.
The Echo Papa system operated both on the surface of the planet and in space; While both Captain Jean-Luc Picard and first officer Commander William T. Riker were on the planet's surface, Lieutenant Geordi La Forge was left in command; although he was inexperienced, La Forge refused to yield command to then Chief Engineer Charles H. Logan. (TNG episode: "The Arsenal of Freedom")
A few weeks afterwards, Doctor Beverly Crusher recalled her experience on Minos while treating Jason Reardon, a survivor of the Hamlin Massacre. (TNG novel: The Children of Hamlin)
In 2379 La Forge reflected on his experiences at Minos when Riker offered him the first officer position on the USS Titan. (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)
