Biography[]
Commander Merritt served as first officer of the Federation starship USS Stargazer under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard when the ship visited Jeparly Station in the 2330s decade. (TNG - Strange New Worlds I short story: "Together Again, for the First Time")
- Merritt's presence as first officer is somewhat inconsistent with Michael Jan Friedman's Star Trek: Stargazer novels, where the position is usually held by Gilaad Ben Zoma. It is possible this was a temporary assignment for some sort of interim period of personnel change, but the story has other points that diverge from what was established in the novel continuity. The story did not specify whether Merritt was a full commander or a lieutenant commander but a full commander's rank insignia is shown for the purposes of this wiki.
