- For other uses, see class M.
An M-class (or M-type) star is a stellar classification for red star made up of ionized atoms, especially helium. The temperature is cool at 2,500 to 3,500 degrees K. (ST reference: Star Charts)
Type M0 V stars are 0.01 times as bright as Sol and have 0.3 times its mass. Their habitable zone ranges from 0.08-0.13 AU and are 4-24 billion years old. Type M5 V stars are 0.001 times as bright as Sol and have 0.2 times its mass. Their habitable zone ranges from 0.025-0.042 AU and are 4-24 billion years old. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds)
