Gretchen Janeway (née Williams) was a Human female who lived on Earth during the 24th century. She was the wife of Edward Janeway, and the mother of Kathryn and Phoebe. Biography[]
Gretchen's father was a Starfleet officer. Her mother was called Elsa. Gretchen, born in late 2309, had a sister Annie and an aunt named Katie. Gretchen's father was killed in an accident when she was six and a half years old, in 2316. (VOY - Strange New Worlds IV short story: "Uninvited Admirals")
In Winter of 2329, her stepfather, Kurt, was promoted to the rank of Admiral. At the promotion party, Kurt introduced Gretchen to Lieutenant Edward Janeway, as well as to Lieutenant William Patterson. Edward and Gretchen married soon afterwards. Gretchen was a traditionalist when it came to cooking. She raised Kathryn to use a toaster to get the right texture needed for a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. (VOY - Distant Shores short story: "Isabo's Shirt")
