- The name by which the Cardassians refer to themselves meant "People of Discipline." (ST - New Worlds, New Civilizations short story: "The Glories of the Hebitians")

- The word for "nothing". Odo was given this name by the Cardassians and eventually shortened it to just "Odo". (DS9 episode: "Heart of Stone")
