Taurus II (more specifically known as Beta Tauri II or Al Nath II) was a planet located in the space of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, the second planet in the Beta Tauri star system in the vicinity of the Murasaki 312 quasar effect. (TOS episode & Star Trek 10 novelization: The Galileo Seven; TOS - IDW comics: "The Galileo Seven, Part 1", "The Galileo Seven, Part 2"; ST reference: Star Charts)
History and specifics[]
The inhabitants of Taurus II were order 480-G anthropoids, similar to smaller humanoid life discovered by Starfleet on Hansen's Planet sometime prior to the mid-23rd century. The Taureans were ten to twelve feet in height, with a rudimentary technology capability that allowed them to craft spears in a style which appeared to be a "Folsom point".
In the year 2267, the shuttlecraft Galileo was forced down to the surface of Taurus II after being affected by the magnetic energy effects of the Murasaki phenomenon, which they were investigating. The shuttle crew—outfitted for a temporary, short-range mission—found themselves stranded on the planetoid. Under the command of First Officer Spock, the crew included Chief Engineer Scott, Doctor McCoy, Science Officer Boma, Helmsman Latimer, Radiation Specialist Gaetano and Yeoman Mears. The stranded team made a hostile first contact with the Taurean anthropoids, losing crew members Latimer and Gaetano in initial encounters. Later in 2270 the Klingon Commander Kor decided to make use of the properties of Murasaki 312 to set up an ambush in the Beta Tauri system by putting a number of distress beacons in orbit around Taurus II. One science vessel that was studying the Murasaki phenomenon responded to the distress signal and was shot down.
A starship commanded by captain Isaac Garrett came to investigate the loss of the science ship and an landing team under command of Garrett's First Officer came to the aid of the survivors, rescuing them from the Taurus II inhabitants who had been relentlessly attacking the scientists. Simulations[]
In 2381, the rogue artificial intelligence Badgey trapped USS Cerritos officers and visitors in the starship's holodeck. In one of his drills, Cerritos explored Murasaki 312 and Yosemite crashed on Taurus II. While trying to rescue the shuttle, Cerritos entered orbit and became snared in ionized electromagnetic fields. Kelvin timeline[]
In the Kelvin timeline of the year 2258, the shuttlecraft Galileo was forced down to the surface of Taurus II after being affected by the magnetic energy effects of the Murasaki phenomenon, which they were investigating. Much as in the parallel prime reality, this version of reality unfolded with the shuttle crew—outfitted for a temporary, short-range mission—stranded on the planetoid. Under the command of First Officer Spock, the crew included Chief Engineer Scott, Doctor McCoy, Helmsman Latimer, Yeoman Rand, and Crewmen Boma and Gaetano. The stranded team made a hostile first contact with the Taurean anthropoids, losing crew member Latimer in the initial encounter. (TOS - IDW comic: "The Galileo Seven, Part 1")
