Vivian McAteer (born 23 September 1933; age 91) is a retired hair stylist and hair designer who worked as hair designer on the third season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In 1990 she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling for a Series for her work on the episode "Hollow Pursuits" which she shared with Barbara Lampson and Rita Bellissimo.
McAteer previously received two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling: In 1979 for Backstairs at the White House and in 1985 for Love Lives On. In 2000, she won a Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award for Best Period Hair Styling – Feature for her work on Tea with Mussolini.
McAteer started her career as a hair stylist in the 1970s with credits such as Bronk (1976) and Hardcore (1979). Further credits include Fatso (1980), Heart Beat (1980, with makeup artist Edouard F. Henriques), History of the World, Part I1 (1981), True Confessions (1981, with makeup designer Michael Westmore), Rocky III (1982, again with Michael Westmore), 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984, with Michael Westmore), Psycho III (1986, with Michael Westmore), Matlock (1986-1987) and MacGyver (1991-1992), Point of No Return (1993, with Toni-Ann Walker and makeup artist R. Christopher Biggs), and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994, with Carol A. O'Connell and Elaina P. Schulman).
She worked as hair stylist for Dustin Hoffman on Outbreak (1995, with Diane Pepper) and for Cher on Tea with Mussolini (1999). Further credits include Absolute Power (1997, with Carol A. O'Connell), Contact (1997, with Janice Alexander, Audrey L. Anzures, and Carolyn L. Elias), Switchback (1997), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997, with Carol A. O'Connell), The Perfect Storm (2000, with Diane Pepper), and as makeup department head on Pay It Forward (2000, with Carol A. O'Connell).
