A '''thought''' was an [[idea]] or [[concept]] created by the mental activity of the [[mind]]. The process of creating a thought was called '''thinking'''. 

The [[Talosian]]s of [[Talos IV]] could read the thoughts of their [[specimen]]s. After reading [[Vina]]{{'}}s thoughts, as well as her [[feeling]]s and her [[dream]]s of what would be a perfect man, the Talosians picked [[Captain]] [[Christopher Pike]]. Furthermore, the Talosians could create an [[illusion]] out of an individual's thought for them to experience, such as the [[crew]] of the {{USS|Enterprise|NCC-1701}} thinking they had found the [[survivor]]s from the [[crash landing|crashed]] {{SS|Columbia}}. According to [[Spock]] in [[2267]], [[Jackson Roykirk]]'s [[dream]] was to build a [[perfection|perfect]] thinking [[machine]], capable of independent [[logic]]. In most [[Betazoid]]s, their telepathic gifts developed at [[adolescence]], however, occasionally a [[child]] was [[born]] with their telepathic abilities switched on. Most Betazoids born that way never led a normal life as the [[noise]] of other peoples' thoughts and [[feeling]]s were overwhelming, incomprehensible, and [[pain]]ful, especially to a child. In the [[2330s]], at [[Omicron Theta colony]], [[Doctor]] [[Noonien Soong]] scanned the [[synaptic pattern]]s of the [[colonist]]s' [[temporal lobe]]s and programmed them into [[Data]]{{'}}s [[neural net]]s.
