History

Emperor D'ken ruled the Shi'ar Empire unopposed, killing his sister Lilandra and forcing his other sister Deathbird to join with the space pirates known as the Starjammers. D'ken became obsessed with accessing the secret of the M'kraan Crystal. His tampering upset the energy matrix inside the crystal keeping the Neutron Universe contained inside in check, threatening to destroy the entire universe.

Gambit and his X-Ternals travelled to the Shi'ar Empire to collect the M'kraan Crystal in order to restore the damaged timeline. Gambit, Lila Cheney, and Deathbird were pulled into the crystal where they found D'ken frozen inside, having been made the Crystal's prisoner for trying to take its power without giving something in return. The X-Ternals corrected the problems with the Crystal, collected a shard of it, and returned to Earth leaving D'ken inside.
