July 25: Saint James, Apostle, brother of Saint John, first Apostle to Iberia, modern day Spain, and first of the Apostles to be martyred.

The lovely and historic St. James Cathedral in the First Hill neighborhood is a joy to visit. Its exterior and its interior are really beautiful. The interior is filled with magnificent stained glass windows and some lovely religious art. The cathedral is one of the most serene places in Seattle. Saint James, one of the favored three Apostles, witnessed the Transfiguration and was the first apostle to be martyred.

James, sometimes called the Just, and at other times the brother of Jesus, was in fact Jesus’ biological brother. And that when Jesus was killed, inherited the church. Not Peter. Certainly not Paul. It was James.
