Randy Boy Junior (ランディー・ボーイ・ジュニア, Randī Bōi Junia) is a featherweight professional boxer from the Philippines and the son of the late "Raccoon Boy", the man who defeated Miyata's father and ended both their careers prematurely. Like Miyata Ichirō, he has the exact same style as his father and as such, their match was considered fate. He was the main antagonist for Miyata in the Survival Match of Asian Champions Saga.

Background[]

Randy saw his father come home after fighting Miyata and worryingly noticed how he was having symptoms of brain damage. After his father came home from fighting his first world ranked match, he passed away seven days later. Randy became motivated to become a boxer to find the answer to why his father went to the world stage even though he had symptoms of brain damage, wanting to know what the difference the world stage makes.[1]

Later, Randy fought and defeated Malcolm Gedo, who wasn't throwing the match for money like he usually did, shattering his dreams of reaching the world stage after being defeated.[2]

History[]

Part II[]

Chaos Arc[]

Miyata's encounter with Randy Boy Junior

Randy meeting Miyata at the Kōrakuen Hall.

Randy and Mr. Sakaguchi arrived to the Kōrakuen Hall to watch Miyata's fifth OPBF featherweight title defence match against Che Jounbong. After watching Miyata win by knockout in the fourth round, Randy met Miyata, who did not know who he was, as he was going to the doctor's office in the venue. After Randy claimed that he and Miyata are destined to meet, Miyata requested for him to identify himself. Randy did not answer, instead he throws a punch that Miyata dodges and told him that they are meant to fight. When Miyata's father approached them, Randy left after he warned that Miyata can not escape from his destiny. When Randy came out from the venue, he informed Mr. Sakaguchi that Miyata turned him down and he noticed that his fists are broken. Mr. Sakaguchi reassured him that their match will still happen despite that.

Later, due to Miyata's broken fists, an interim OPBF featherweight title match was scheduled during Miyata's absent between the second OPBF ranker Randy and third OPBF ranker Banai Jakkuim since the first OPBF ranker, Makunouchi Ippo, refused to take part. Randy defeated Jakkuim and was declared interim OPBF champion. An OPBF featherweight unification title match was then decided with Miyata.

Red Lightning Arc[]

RBJ - Itagai - Spar - 03

Randy went to Japan as his OPBF featherweight title match against Miyata came close. He went with Mr. Sakaguchi to the Otowa gym for his public spar, where he defeated three boxers before Itagaki Manabu and Ippo arrived for Itagaki to spar against Randy. When the spar began, Randy was unable to hit Itagaki due to his speed and was hit by counters and jabs for the first round and the start of the second round. During the second round, Randy used his Switch Hitting style to his advantage and Itagaki was knocked down twice due to his rhythm getting affected by Randy switching his stances. Itagaki was unable to fight after the second down, just before they leave, he noticed Ippo glaring at him, angered by Mr. Sakaguchi mocking Miyata, wanted to fight for the spar's final third round. Randy accepted Ippo's request and the two got ready to spar. When the gong sounded, Mr. Sakaguchi stopped the spar, as he wanted Randy to fight Ippo only if Ippo puts his world ranking on the line. Outside the gym, Mr. Sakaguchi informed Randy to remember Ippo's name, as Miyata and him are the world rankers he has to take for the shortest path to become the world champion. When Mr. Sakaguchi told him that Miyata is first since he keeps defeating his pawns, Randy confronted him, claiming that he is not his tool and that he will only believe in his goals as long as it aligns with his own, planning to only work with him until he receives his present.

Later, Randy went to the Kōrakuen Hall for his weigh-in for his match against Miyata, passing the weight check. Afterwards, Randy went to his press conference, where Mr. Sakaguchi talked for him. The next day, he went to the Yokohama Arena for his match against Miyata. Before heading to the ring, Randy was unfazed by Mr. Sakaguchi's attempt to rile him up to make his match a revenge match by telling him that Miyata's father was the reason his father passed away.

When the match began, Randy was surprised by Miyata's speed, and was hit with a counter. Randy attempted to hit Miyata again, but Miyata went around him with lefts, landing a hit on Randy's head. Randy began to speed up, keeping up with Miyata's footwork and knocking away his punches. As Miyata tried to use footwork to get away from Randy, he chased Miyata until he trapped him in a corner. Randy missed a barrage of punches at Miyata in the corner and was hit with a counter in the middle of the barrage, letting Miyata escape from the corner. Miyata signalled for Randy to fight him in the centre of the ring, which Randy accepted. After Randy's long ranged punches were dodged, Randy entered an in-fight with Miyata at the centre of the ring, which Randy lost out in, getting hit multiple times until the first round ended. At his corner, Randy did not want to take it easy like Mr. Sakaguchi wanted to by waiting for Miyata to slow down in the later rounds, as he wanted to prove that he can take on an opponent with world class speed now, since if he can't prove it now, he doubts that he can do it later.

Randy getting hit by a Jolt Counter.

When the second round began, Randy's first punch that he threw resulted in him getting hit with a counter. He put his guard up as Miyata attacked his guarded head with a flurry of punches while mixing in blows to his exposed body. When Randy dropped his guard to attack, Miyata hit his head and retreated. Randy entered a middle ranged exchange with Miyata, where Miyata was the only one landing punches at first until Miyata put his guard up and slow down to bait Randy into going on the offensive by thinking that he can be caught. Just as Randy thought that he was about to catch Miyata with an attack, he was hit with a counter that went over his punch, making Randy go down. After Randy got up, not knowing that he went down, he tried to rush toward Miyata, however, his knees buckled due to the damage that led to the down. When Miyata got close to him, Randy made failed attempts to hit Miyata while being unable to use his legs. As he noticed that Miyata stopped his footwork, Randy got irritated and launched a right. Randy was hit by a Jolt Counter while throwing the right, however, he was able to stand as the right was a mere jab since he was using the southpaw stance when he threw it. Miyata tried to land a follow-up punch, however, Randy and Miyata's legs got crossed up, making him trip and fall on Randy, causing both boxers to fall and a slip to be declared for them. When they both get up, the referee stopped the match shortly after as the second round ended.

SpeedHell

In the third round, Randy started with the southpaw stance. Randy had the southpaw strategy used against him, as he was hit with multiple jabs by Miyata, who circled clockwise while attacking. Randy countered the strategy by switching between southpaw and orthodox stances constantly, interrupting Miyata's footwork, and letting Randy to connect with a right to his face. Randy became shocked as Miyata suddenly raised his speed. He put his guard up as it blocked a barrage of punches thrown at full speed. Randy was pushed to a corner while still having his guard hit until Miyata was stopped by the referee as the third round ended. At his corner, Miyata noted how Randy's guard is solid, but when he makes a move, he will counter Randy. He was instructed by his father to do what ever it takes to take down Randy before he recovers from the damage he still has from getting hit by the Jolt Counter. At his corner, Randy told a complaining Mr. Sakaguchi that he is using the data he gave him against Miyata, however, he realised how Miyata is evolving, as he is stronger and faster than the data that Mr. Sakaguchi had claimed he was.

In the fourth round, Randy guarded against Miyata's immediate punches thrown at full speed, opening his guard once Miyata paused, and having recovered from the Jolt Counter he took in the second round. As Randy advanced toward Miyata, Miyata resumed his fast barrage of punches, however, Randy began to dodge the punches using head slips. Randy was able to force himself to Miyata's chest, hitting Miyata with a body blow. Randy continued hitting Miyata with body blows, however, he was hit multiple times in the process by fast punches and occasionally getting his body blows countered. As Randy slipped down to avoid Miyata's left and attack his body, Randy saw that Miyata was preparing a left counter, which he knew he could take. However, Randy was hit by a right counter that he did not see coming, as Miyata had him focus on his left counter the whole time when he was countering the previous body blows. As the fourth round ended, Randy realised that he has the advantage now, as he broke Miyata's ribs when his first body blow connected.

In the fifth round, Randy went for Miyata's body, and, after Miyata's right counter missed and Randy's body blow hit, Randy was confident that Miyata's right has weakened due to the pain in his ribs. Randy continued hitting Miyata with body blows, further increasing the pain to Miyata's broken ribs. Randy was surprised to see Miyata proceed to use footwork, and began to chase Miyata. Randy's attacks to Miyata's head were dodged by footwork, sways, and neck twists, however, Randy was able to hit Miyata with body blows once he got into close range. Randy's pressure made Miyata step back to a corner. Randy followed him, and the two hit each other with multiple exchanges until Miyata escaped. As Randy hit Miyata's weak jaw during the exchange at the corner, Miyata fell shortly after he left the corner. When Miyata got up, the gong to end the fifth round rang.

In the sixth round, Miyata put his guard up. Randy attacked Miyata's guard until it broke, and proceeded to hit him with combinations to his face, eventually pushing him into a corner. While Miyata was able to put his guard up again, Randy got a right hit through the guard, hitting Miyata in the face, which caused him to go down. When Miyata got up, Randy easily avoided his many attempts to land a hit until Miyata fell from his own momentum while throwing a left hook. After Miyata got up, Randy dodged Miyata's attacks again while landing punches of his own. Miyata fell from his own momentum again as the gong to end the sixth round rang. As Miyata crawled to his corner, Randy asked the referee if Miyata should still be fighting anymore. At the corner, as Randy claimed that Miyata might die if it continues, Mr. Sakaguchi told him to not have sympathy, since the one who caused his father's death is Miyata's second, advising him to use the same counter as his father did that ended Miyata's father's career. Randy had no hard feelings toward Miyata, and knew that his style, while similar to his father's, is entirely different.

In the seventh round, Randy dodged Miyata's attacks that were upward jabs, and hit Miyata with left jabs. When Randy hit Miyata with a left that sends him on his back, the referee was about to end the match, however, Miyata rolled back and stood up, intending to continue. As Randy advanced toward Miyata, Miyata moved his left fist slightly to feint Randy into throwing a left. When Randy threw a left, he was hit with a Cross Counter, causing him to go down, however, he was able to stand back up. As Randy and Miyata dashed toward each other, they both threw a right. Randy was shocked as he noticed Miyata's fists are glowing like red lightning as he was hit with a Corkscrew Counter, causing him to go down. The referee ended the match immediately, resulting in Randy's loss. Randy was escorted to the doctor's office in the venue by a stretcher.

In his changing room at the venue, Randy was yelled at by Mr. Sakaguchi for losing, wanting an answer as to why he lost by a counter from a weakened Miyata. Randy did not remember anything about the match besides the gong of the first round sounding, and then seeing something shining in his eyes. He also kept seeing a proud boy with his fist raised in the air when he closes his eyes. Mr. Sakaguchi left after informing Randy that their contract has been cancelled. Randy planned to go back home with his seconds and visit his father's grave to tell him that he lost.

Spars[]

Appearance[]

Randy PS3

Randy's appearance.

Randy is a tall man with tan coloured skin, a short neatly trimmed moustache on his upper lips and spiky, long black hair. He is well built with a strong and muscular body. He has intimidating, sharp eyes and thick eyebrows. Usually, his eyes are very narrow, appearing to be almost closed. However, when he was forced to fight seriously in the match against Miyata, his eyes were wide open, giving him an almost demonic look.

Personality[]

Randy is an arrogant boxer who considers himself much better than his opponents. He is also shown to be quite level-headed, not holding a grudge over Miyata's father killing his own. But when he is losing in a fight, he can become extremely furious in contrast to his normal demeanour. He becomes even more dangerous, with his normal aloof face changing into one of pure rage. He is also analytical, seeing Ippo as an abnormal fighter just from seeing his jab.

Boxing Abilities[]

RBJ - 002

Randy Boy Jr. is a strong and ambidextrous boxer, just like his father, which enables him to be a "Switch Hitter": a boxer who is capable of freely switching stance from orthodox to southpaw and vice versa. His style has given him the ring name "Asura" because of his ability to "go" and "see" anywhere in the ring. His switching is said to be the perfect match-up against counter-punchers, and out-boxers in general, because it disrupts their rhythm and timing. This was shown in his past fights and his spar with Itagaki Manabu (who had already awakened his latent potential). He has power and endurance supposedly on par with Makunouchi Ippo, and is also surprisingly fast. Randy is also good at using head slips and parrying punches.

His usual pattern is to allow his opponent to get into rhythm (though this means he may have to take some hits) then disrupt it by switching stances. Using this, he eventually catches them. If he traps his opponents in the corner, he will face them directly with his hands up on both sides of his face. From there he switches between orthodox and southpaw depending on where his opponents move.

Techniques[]

  1. Switch Hitter
  2. Body Blow
  3. Headslip
  4. Switch Crosses

Weaknesses[]

Randy tends to take a lot of hits despite his speed and endurance. His signature strategy may not be as effective against in-fighters like Sendo or Ippo, since the punishment he would have to take from them may be too severe to allow him to mount a counterattack. Moreover, switching stances has little effect on in-fighters.

Randy is ambidextrous, but when he becomes off-balance he instinctively throws his left. Miyata exploited this habit to land his first major counter of the match.
