Roblox (Credit: BBC Studios) A set of Doctor Who virtual items are available for free this month for the Roblox community to enjoy.

BBC Studios and Roblox today announced the launch of a series of Doctor Who-themed virtual items on Roblox, a global online platform bringing more than 115 million people together through play.

Players can now personalize their avatar with a variety of Doctor Who-themed items, including a TARDIS backpack, and avatars of The Tenth and Thirteenth Doctor, all obtainable for free, from the Roblox Avatar Shop.

These items are available for a limited time (12th March-26th March) and include:

The Pterrible Pting
This tiny terror from Doctor Who can eat any inorganic material. Thankfully, however, it won’t eat any organic material (meaning you).

Portable TARDIS
Funny thing about this backpack…it’s much, much bigger on the inside.

The Tenth Doctor
Two legs, two arms, two hands, BIG hair…and sideburns! This bundle is based on David Tennant’s character in Doctor Who.

The Thirteenth Doctor
This bundle, made of a bit of adrenaline, a dash of outrage, and a hint of panic, is based on Jodie Whittaker’s character in Doctor Who.

Christina Wootton, Vice President of Brand Partnerships, Roblox, said:
On Roblox your online identity is a powerful tool that helps our community express who they are and who they want to become. We are delighted to partner with Doctor Who, whose diverse set of characters inspire the freedom and creativity that help our community define who they are in the real world as much as the virtual world.
Sarah Bold, BBC Studios Global Franchise Head of Marketing for Drama, said:
The Doctor Who fan community is renowned for creativity making it a joy to take the TARDIS to Roblox where millions of fans will be able to play and create with these new items.

Bookmark and Share Cybermen Launch Escape Game

12/06/2018 10:39:00 pm - Reported by Marcus

To the surprise of many shoppers, Cybermen were spotted in two major cities in the UK today, to mark tickets going on sale for Worlds Collide, the first official Doctor Who live escape game.

One of the Time Lord’s oldest enemies, which feature in the new game, commandeered a barge on the canal at Gas Street Basin in Birmingham. Next, they were seen threatening to ‘upgrade’ unsuspecting Christmas shoppers outside the iconic Birmingham Bullring shopping centre, before travelling up through the UK, heading straight for Leeds City Centre, frightening local commuters in the process.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting details of the BBC Studios and Escape Hunt Doctor Who-themed live escape game, which will be playable at Escape Hunt venues across the country from early 2019.

Teams of up to six become the Doctor’s new friends and are transported into the future, to the offices of ChronosCorp HQ, where eccentric billionaire Alastair Montague’s efforts to develop commercial time travel have caused a tear in the fabric of space and time, a tear which the Cyberman will use to attack Earth!

The players are then given 60 minutes to work out how to close the tear before the Cybermen break through, using only what remains of Montague, his prototype time engine and the extensive collection of time-related artefacts acquired over the course of his experiments. The fate of the universe rests in their hands – if they take too long the human race will be ‘upgraded’.

From today, fans can book tickets for the immersive adventure, which will be arriving at Escape Hunt locations on the following dates:

Bookmark and Share Time Vortex VR

12/14/2017 12:01:00 am - Reported by Marcus

Time Vortex (Credit: BBC Worldwide)A new game has been released by the BBC. Doctor Who Time Vortex VR gives players the chance to pilot the TARDIS through the depths of the space-time vortex inside a virtual reality version of the show’s title sequence.

The game is a VR reboot of the successful Time Vortex 360 mobile game released earlier this year. As they speed through time, players will tackle hazards and obstacles emerging from the future ahead of them and will need to quickly react by physically turning around to evade threats from the past. As players progress through the game, they are transported into different time zones from past eras, from the current vortex to re-imagined designs from the 1960s and 1980s.

The game is available to play using cardboard headsets, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and HTC Vive via your web browser. However, those without headsets can play the game with mobiles and tablets running newer versions of Android or iOS and the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox or Safari. A full list of all supported devices is available here.

To play, fans simply need to visit bbc.in/TimeVortexVR. Like the 360 game, the VR version is an endless runner, which gets more and more difficult the longer people play, taking them on a visually intense journey through the iconic vortex from the show's opening credits. Using the device's accelerometer, players control the game by physically moving around, even giving the player the ability to turn around and travel backwards in time.

Jo Pearce, Creative Director, BBC Digital Drama, said:
This game allows you to step inside one of the most iconic title sequences in TV history, as you pilot the TARDIS through modern, 80s and 60s versions of the vortex. Digital innovation is at the very heart of Doctor Who – and this new game combines casual, arcade-style gaming with virtual reality to create an unforgettable experience.

After releasing the 360 version of the game, we had lots of comments from players suggesting it would make a great VR experience. For this re-boot we wanted to offer a VR gaming experience that is as accessible as possible and test the limits of what is possible to develop using WebVR.
Developed for the BBC by Goodboy Digital, the game has been created using the WebVR API and combines cutting-edge HTML5 and WebGL using PixiJS v5.0 to create a breath-taking journey that works on a wide range of hardware.

The game is produced by Tiny Rebel Games Ltd, the team behind the popular game Doctor Who Legacy, under official license from BBC Worldwide. The new game is being funded as a joint effort between the Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget and British game publisher/developer Double Eleven Limited.

It is being developed in close collaboration with Seed Studio along with a broad team of UK-based talent including well-known Doctor Who actors, writers, and artists. Cardiff-based award-winning audio designer and composer Stafford Bawler will be providing audio direction for the game. Doctor Who Infinity will be released both on PC and on major mobile platforms.

Susan Cummings, of Tiny Rebel Games, is the executive producer on Doctor Who Infinity.
It has been an incredible delight to be able to pull together such extraordinarily talented people to realize our ambitions for this new game. I am continually humbled by the quality of work they are doing and I think Doctor Who fans everywhere are going to be amazed by how we have taken everything we have learned from making the award-winning gameplay of Doctor Who: Legacy and brought it to the next level in every way imaginable
Doctor Who Infinity builds on the addictive puzzle gameplay of Doctor Who: Legacy to immerse players in comic book style puzzle adventures. Each story-based adventure has its own unique art style and author. To bring these original stories to life, Tiny Rebel Games has recruited an incredible team of major British Doctor Who writers and internationally renowned UK-based comic book artists to illustrate the stories.

Ken Skates AM, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure in Wales says
We are delighted that Tiny Rebel Games recognizes the world-class creative talent present in Wales, especially in writing, art, and audio. By moving their business here from Los Angeles last year, Tiny Rebel has given Wales a valuable opportunity. Enabling us to invest in and grow the country’s experience in the burgeoning video game industry, while also utilizing local talent. Still popular four years later, the game continues to add new content weekly and is well over 120 hours of gameplay.

With a soft launch in early Spring, Doctor Who Infinity will be live globally on PC, iTunes, and Google Play in late Spring 2018.

You can follow news about the game via the website and on Facebook, or Twitter.

5/17/2017 11:01:00 am - Reported by Chuck Foster

The BBC have announced a new game that can be played on mobile devices:

Doctor Who: Time Vortex 360 (Credit: BBC)New BBC 360° mobile game lets Doctor Who fans pilot the TARDIS through the vortex

Doctor Who fans can pilot the TARDIS on its most exhilarating journey yet as it careers through the depths of the space time vortex in the BBC’s first ever 360 arcade game, Doctor Who Time Vortex 360.

Fans simply need to visit bbc.in/dw360 using their smartphone or tablet and by physically moving their mobile device through 360 degrees, they will be able to fly the TARDIS within an increasingly turbulent time vortex.

As they speed through time, players will tackle hazards and obstacles emerging from the future ahead of them, but in a unique and literal twist will sometimes need to physically turn themselves to look backwards in time in order to evade threats emerging from the past.

Jo Pearce, creative director, BBC Digital Drama, said:
The beauty of this game is that you can use your mobile phone to fly the TARDIS wherever you are. Digital innovation is at the very heart of Doctor Who – this 360 degree game allows people to navigate the TARDIS through time and space like never before.

We’ve seen a lot of innovation recently in the 360 and virtual reality space, but the majority has focused on ‘experiential’ video-based experiences. This game, however, brings together the worlds of casual, arcade-style gaming and 360/VR to create a fun Doctor Who experience that people can easily pick up and play, wherever they are.

The game is an endless runner, which gets more and more difficult the longer people play, taking them on a visually intense journey through the iconic vortex from the show's opening credits. Using the device's accelerometer, the game is controlled by physically moving around, even giving the player the ability to turn around and travel backwards in time.

Designed as a mobile-first experience for the BBC by Goodboy Digital, the game combines cutting edge HTML5 and WebGL using PixiJS v5.0 to create a breath-taking journey that works on a wide range of hardware.

The game is available to play on BBC Taster, where fans can rate the game and provide feedback.

Since then we’ve been tirelessly researching episodes both old and new, sculpting miniatures and working back and forth with the BBC to ensure the results are completely authentic.

Our licence covers not just the latest series of Doctor Who but encompasses all of the Doctors, their companions and their foes, spanning more than fifty years - so look out for long scarves and jelly babies as well as Sonic Sunglasses!

The first releases are now available, with lots more on the way. The models are high quality pewter castings, officially approved by the BBC. Our forthcoming range will also include plastic Daleks, Cybermen and UNIT troopers, as well as many more pewter figures.

INTO THE TIME VORTEX - BOX GAME

Our first game, Into The time Vortex, will be released in early 2017 and will feature Daleks V Cybermen. The Doctor and his various companions all have a role in setting the scenario, objectives and the special rules for the game. Additional releases introduce many of the Doctor’s foes and allies, each with their own unique characteristics.

The gameplay allows for three different levels of play, ranging from the harsh environment of the Battle, through the world of the Adventure and finally allowing you to take part in an Episode. Each level of play has its own challenges, as dictated by eight scenarios that come with the game. The Doctor and his companions all have key roles in the scenarios and have their own rules that add to the experience. The rules booklets are simple to use. The basic game uses Battle cards that can be played to enhance your own plans or thwart those of your enemies. There are also clearly laid out Faction Recruitment cards that detail the forces being used, their individual weapons and abilities, plus generic and character specific Adventure cards that may be used to create more advanced versions of the game. In addition, a set of Event cards can be found in the box, providing the means to weld all the aspects of the game together and take part in the type of adventures that make the TV programme what it is.

Warlord Games: Cybermen figures (Credit: Warlord Games)The initial release consists of everything you need to play, including specially created plastic miniatures of two of The Doctor’s iconic foes, the Daleks and the Cybermen. There are 12 ‘snap fit’ miniatures for each of these factions, plus the Cybermen sprue includes six Cybernates that can aid their larger brethren. Of course, no Doctor Who based game is complete without The Doctor himself, so you will also find a miniature of the 12th Doctor, ready to take part in the action.

One boxed set, three ways to play! But that’s not all, as there are a number of further releases planned which will add more miniatures, cards and opportunities to gain victory over your opponent. New factions, Companions and additional Doctors will become available over time, so the game can keep growing, as will your collection of finely crafted pewter and plastic heroes and villains.

More details can be found via the dedicated Doctor Who Into The Time Vortex website.

Farsight Studios have released their digital recreation of the 1992 Doctor Who Pinball Machine.

The table has been released for iOS, Google Play, Steam (Mac/Windows), Mac App Store, Amazon and Ouya. The table is inspired by the TV series and features the original Doctor Who theme song, TARDIS, Doctors, companions, and villains from the series.

The digital version of the table was produced after a Kickstarter campaign raised over $56,000, enough to purchase the the licences allowing Farsight studios to develop the replica of the machine.

The innovative game, designed by Barry Oursler and Bill Pfutzenreuter, tasks the player with rescuing each of the original 7 Doctors from the Master, each one adding a new dimension to the ruleset. Multiball is played via a 3 level "Time Expander" mini playfield that raises up to reveal more targets, allowing players to defeat Davros and his Daleks and restore Earth's time to normal.

Legacy - Bigger on the Inside (Credit: Tiny Rebel Press) Tiny Rebel Games and Seed Studio today launch the latest level pack for the online game Doctor Who: Legacy.

Bigger on the Inside: Chapter 1 is the continuation of the pixelated saga that began last year with the free Bigger on the Inside Prologue, which sees all of the Doctors facing a dire threat as an unknown virus invades the TARDIS.

Bigger on the Inside: Chapter 1 is written by George Mann (writer of the Engines of War novel, as well as many Doctor Who Titan comic books) and features pixelated art by the PixelWho team.

Follow the War and 8th Doctors as they try to save the TARDIS and figure out who is behind the deadly attack, traveling from turn of the century San Francisco back to deep inside the Time War, and many places in between. As well as grouping with allies such as Grace Holloway, Cinder and the Gallifreyan General, BOTI: C1 also sees the introduction of Josie Day from the 8th Doctor Titan comics to the Legacy universe.
This 31 level premium pack costs $4.99 USD, and players get 31 new levels as well as 20 new pixel costumes, and the allies associated with those costumes.

The pack also introduces Legacy's first wholly original enemy, the History Eater, as visually realized by artist, Pest Jiang, adapted by the PixelWho team, and based on a collaborative creation of the Legacy team and George Mann in association with the Doctor Who brand team.

Doctor Who: Legacy has now been live for 3 years and is played by over 2 million people. More information about Bigger on the Inside can be found on the Legacy website
