Electricity consumption and production in Italy
An overall negative change in electricity consumption was observed in Italy in the last few years. The electricity demand of this country decreased by almost five percent between 2010 and 2021. By comparison, the production of electricity lagged behind consumption and amounted to 284 terawatt-hours in 2022.
Electricity prices in Italy
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the energy prices in Italy shot up to record levels. The electricity price for average household consumers amounted to 66 euro cents per kilowatt-hour at the end of 2022, which was more than twice the electricity price in 2021. In the same year, Italy was one of the leading global countries for electricity prices. However, prices decreased to less than 30 euro cents per kilowatt-hour in 2023.
