The unemployment rate of the West Midlands Metropolitan County was 5.2 percent in the twelve months to June 2024, which was the highest among England's six metropolitan counties and Greater London. By contrast, South Yorkshire, which includes the major city of Sheffield, had the lowest unemployment rate, at 3.2 percent.
