Since the turn of the century, the production of natural gas in the European Union has seen a significant decline. In 2000, approximately 130 billion cubic meters were produced, but by 2019 this figure had fallen to some 61 billion cubic meters. Until here, the United Kingdom was the EU’s main natural gas producing country. In 2023, the natural gas production in the European Union, excluding the UK, amounted to around 34.4 billion cubic meters.

According to the source, the data represents standard cubic meters (measured at 15°C and 1,013 mbar) as far as possible. Since the data is derived directly from metric tons of oil equivalent using an average conversion factor, it does not necessarily equate with gas volumes expressed in specific national terms.
