In January 2022, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard for 68.7 billion U.S. dollars. Until then, the company's most expensive acquisition was social business networking platform LinkedIn in 2016 for 26.2 billion U.S. dollars. Activision Blizzard is not the first gaming company that has been purchased by Microsoft: in September 2014, Microsoft acquired Swedish game developer Mojang for 2.5 billion U.S. dollars. Mojang is the creator of the successful Minecraft game. In September 2020, gaming publisher ZeniMax Studios were also bought by Microsoft.
