In fiscal year 2022, Japan's utilization rate of its nuclear power stations amounted to over 18 percent. The share increased significantly in recent fiscal years. In 2014, the rate dropped to zero percent as all nuclear power stations were shut down for security inspections in response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. Presently Japan intends to increase its share of nuclear power generation as part of its plan to become carbon neutral by 2050.
