The share of people in Japan who think that the internet offers trustworthy information amounted to 28.9 percent in fiscal year 2023. Except for fiscal year 2016, the internet was trusted as a source of information by less than one-third of survey respondents in recent years.

*The source counts the answers of the survey conducted in December 2023 as figures for fiscal year 2023. Figures for previous years are based on earlier surveys, each with a sample size of 1,500 respondents.Â
Data prior to fiscal year 2022 come from previous reporting.
Respondents were asked to which degree the internet offered information that can be trusted. There were five possible answers: "One can trust all of it," "One can trust most of it," "About half and half," "One can only trust a part of it," "One cannot not trust it at all." The values shown in this statistic represent the combined share of respondents who answered either "One can trust all of it" or "One can trust most of it."
