Perceptions on vaccines against COVID-19 in Africa 2020
The majority of Africa's population would take a vaccine against the coronavirus (COVID-19). Nearly 80 percent of Africans surveyed were willing to take the immunization, once it is considered safe and effective. On the other hand, 25 percent believed a COVID-19 vaccine would be unsafe, while 18 percent untrust vaccination in general.
Over 3.3 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 were registered in Africa as of January 20, 2021. The African Union has secured 670 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to the continent, while 600 million are to be made available via the World Health Organization-backed Covax scheme. Furthermore, few countries, such as South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Mauritius, and Seychelles, are doing their own deals to promote vaccination.
