Leading 20 export commodities of Turkey 2023

In 2023, Turkey exported 29.5 billion U.S. dollars' worth of vehicles and vehicle parts (excluding railway or tramway rolling-stock), making this the main commodity the country exported worldwide in that year. Among commodities with the highest value were also boilers, machineries and mechanical appliances, the export of which generated approximately 22.4 billion U.S. dollars.

EU exports

In 2023, Germany was the main export partner of Turkey, reaching an export value of about 21 billion U.S. dollars that year. Among the leading countries importing from Turkey, there were some of the biggest countries in the European Union, such as Italy, Spain, and France. When it comes to the goods exported from Turkey to the whole European Union, motor cars and motor vehicles took the lead, with an export value of over six billion euros in 2022.

How do exports affect the Turkish economy?

Between 2013 and 2022, the import value of goods and services to Turkey exceeded the export value, as the country recorded negative values in terms of foreign trade balance each year. In 2022, the foreign balance amounted to minus 109.5 billion U.S. dollars, which was the highest trade deficit of the country over this period. The share of exports in the country’s gross domestic product mainly grew from 2015 to 2022 and reached over 28 percent as of 2022. In comparison, the ratio of exports to GDP in Turkey corresponded to 17.4 percent in 2015.
