Expert groups and working groups

Official Controls expert group

The Official Controls Expert Group (E00911) aims to ensure informed dialogue between the EU countries' competent authorities and the Commission. Its mission is to discuss and potentially agree on issues related to the implementation and enforcement of Regulation (EC) No. 882/2004 and the Official Controls Regulation (EU) 2017/625.

The Expert Group will also be involved in the development of tertiary legislation based on the empowerments provided by Regulation (EU) 2017/625.

The group meetings provide a platform to:

  • exchange views;
  • clarify Commission’s positions;
  • provide advice and guidance;
  • identify areas in which action is needed to ensure proper and coherent enforcement of EU legislation across the EU countries.

The expert group, established in 2010, is composed of:

  1. the EU countries (Members)
  2. Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the Network of the Heads of Food Agencies (Observers).

Working group on temporary measures for the import of food and feed of non-animal origin (Regulation (EU) 2019/1793)

Following the adoption of Regulation (EU) 2019/1793 on the temporary increase of official controls and emergency measures governing the entry into the Union of certain goods from certain third countries, this group was created in order to:

  • prepare the biannual revisions of the lists of products of non-animal origin that are subject to increased import controls;
  • discuss issues related to the implementation of the Regulation.
