EqualOcean has learned that Saudi Arabia has officially begun construction on Mukaab, which will become the largest building in the world. With an estimated cost of around $50 billion, this project is located in Riyadh and aims to reshape the city's skyline. Upon completion, Mukaab will reach a height of 400 meters and will be a massive cubic structure capable of housing the equivalent of 20 Empire State Buildings. Covering an area of 2 million square meters, it will feature upscale restaurants, retail stores, offices, and residential units. Additionally, Mukaab will include 104,000 residential units and 9,000 hotel rooms, creating a vibrant community that integrates retail, business, and cultural experiences, establishing itself as a central hub for both business and leisure activities. The project is expected to be completed by 2030, marking a significant transformation in Saudi Arabia's economic landscape.

Mukaab's design is human-centered, ensuring that anyone within the building can reach green spaces within 15 minutes. The project also plans to implement immersive, AI-driven technology to enhance the visitor experience, featuring giant screens inspired by the Sphere in Las Vegas. The overall architectural design draws from local ecology and regional architectural styles.

This project is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to modernize the country through the Saudi Vision 2030 plan. Mukaab is expected to contribute over $51 billion to Saudi Arabia's non-oil GDP.
