[edit]From Medieval Latin registrum, from Late Latin regesta (“list, items recorded”), from Latin regerere (“to record, to carry back”), from re- + gerere (“to carry, bear”). Compare Latin registoria (“a treasurer”). Some senses influenced by association with unrelated Latin regere (“to rule”).
