From Old Irish ro·cluinethar, from Proto-Goidelic *ro-klunitor, from Proto-Celtic *ɸro- + *klinutor (metathesized to *klunitor in Proto-Goidelic), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱl̥néwti (compare Sanskrit शृणोति (śṛṇoti, hears)) from *ḱlew- (to hear).
