[edit]From Middle High German besuochen (“to seek, use, visit, investigate”), from Old High German bisuohhen (“to examine, check, try, inquire”). By surface analysis, be- + suachn. Cognate with German besuchen (“to visit, see”), Dutch bezoeken (“to visit, see”), Swedish besöka (“to visit, go to see”), English beseech (“to beg, enquire”).
