Etymology

In Chinese chess, the rook (車／车 or 俥／伡) can move forward, backward or sideways on any rank, and can move as many squares as it likes as long as it is not blocked by another piece or the square is not occupied, similar to Western chess. This makes it the second most important piece in the game.
